History:

Attracted by an advertisement in the classified section of the newspaper in 1995 with the message, "Franchises in Wal-Mart, call 1-800-234-1040", Carl and Carrie Kelley began their business venture with Jackson Hewitt in tax season 1996 with a simple plan to run a business to produce just enough income to pay the overhead expenses for an office where they could conduct bookkeeping for their local franchised restaurant. Carrie had a degree and background in accounting having been the accountant for a private college and an assistant controller for a manufacturing company before opening and managing their Restaurant & Pub. Carl in law enforcement 16 years, had been a police officer in the public relations division and then a similar role with the Department of Justice as a Law Enforcement Coordinator and Victim/Witness Specialist. The combination of her accounting and his public relation skills they soon became deeply involved in Jackson Hewitt and embarked upon an incredible growth story taking them to being ranked the 8th largest Franchisee of approximately 800 and being named the Franchisee of the Year in 2005.

They started with one office and one kiosk in Walmart in their home town of Muskogee, Oklahoma. They prepared four hundred ninety-eight tax returns after their first tax season in 1996. They quickly duplicated their success into other territories in the Oklahoma area and then continued their successful footprint into other states.

Purchased Fort Walton Beach, FL area in 2000 expanding to 14 locations.

Expanded to include Springfield, MO and Fort Smith, AR in 2002 adding another 12 locations.

Now operating in Arkansas, Florida, Missouri, and Oklahoma with 82 locations and over 37,000 tax returns per year.

Carl was named to the ICJHF (Independent Council of Jackson Hewitt Franchisees) Board of Directors in February of 2010 and elected to a full term in April of 2010. Additionally, he was appointed to be the President of the ICJHF for a two year term also in April of 2010.

Management Team:

General Manager Terri Cantrell – Employed as a tax preparer since 1995.  Worked at the first Wal-mart location with Carl and has been a key element to the success of C K Ventures, Inc. She has and continues to lead this successful management team in Marketing, Planning, and Operations.

Office Administrator Cathy Fielder – Started as a tax preparer in 2001 and quickly stepped into her position overseeing Accounts Receivable and Payables. She also has been a key element to success since her assumption of this position

Controller Brian Franklin, CPA – Joined the team in 2009.  Brian is currently in charge of payroll, corporate accounting, and leasing. While only with the company for a short time he is quickly becoming a key asset.

Compliance Manager Keri Morgan – Joined CK Ventures in 2000 as a tax preparer.  Keri handles all Gold Guarantee Claims, Tax Course curriculum, and monitors tax preparer due diligence. Her responsibilities are significant to our ability to provide accurate and quality tax returns.

Customer Service Manager Kelli Wood – Brought years of customer service with her to us in 2005.  She coordinates customer service with our area managers to insure customer satisfaction.

Assistant General Manager Lori Pace – Managed the Springfield, MO area 2002-2010.  Promoted May 2010 and moved to Florida to oversee the Florida territories and provide assistance to those area managers.

IT Coordinator Stacey Larson – Started in December 2009 and assumed responsibility for computer security, maintenance, networking, and system operations.
